Hi, I am Mike
My primary love is landscape/architecture photography but I will undertake most subjects. I don't do weddings etc however.
I live in Romsey in the South of England and travel around to find a new and interesting take on pictures.
My Gear
I use Canon equipment. I have a 24MP DSLR with various lenses:
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f1.8
Canon EF 100mm USM Macro
On the list is a Canon 24-70 f2.8 L lens as I had to sacrifice a 24-105L in favour of the 70-200.
The photographic process
I’m out early in the morning or towards sunset in the main, but any time of day will do. I don’t always plan a shoot, because sometimes the fun is in the unplanned.
Once I have a shot or two, it’s time to process. I use Lightroom and occasionally Photoshop, for tuning the images. This could take anything between 1 and 5 hours!
Printing
I print on Fotospeed NST bright white paper. It’s thick (315gsm) and the texture is perfect for landscape and fine art.
I create a white border around the image, 10% each side, 7% at the top and 13% at the bottom.
buildings
Architecture always presents its own difficulties. For example, this shot was taken on fireworks night and was meant to have a burst of a rocket above it, but the original builders failed to anticipate where the display was being launched from…
People
My portraits are generally candid and won’t be for sale. I do undertake commissions on occasion.
nature
From macro to landscape, this is my happy place. I take all shots in-situ and try to do all cropping in-camera while composing the scene. You’ll regularly find me out at all hours trekking around to find the next composition.
